Teifi Stick Chair
This wonderful piece of primitive furniture can be traced back to the 12th century, when an old manuscript illustrating the Welsh Legal System introduced by one of the Welsh Kings - Hywel Dda, depicts a judge sitting on a stick chair.
These chairs were made by local carpenters, mainly from the indigenous woods of oak, ash and elm. Originally designed to stand on the uneven floors of peasant dwellings and farmsteads, these chairs would be situated around the hearth, alongside the settle.
Blodwen is working with a local artisan, specialising in the creation of these wonderful chairs, both for adults and children, based in a small workshop in the Gwaun Valley. Individually hand crafted stick chairs made in Welsh hardwoods, predominantly ash and oak, which are sourced from the sustainable managed woodlands of the Pembrokeshire National Park.
